Mountfield Ecology began in 2001 and is a small independent ecological consultancy owned by Sally-Ann Hurry, providing professional services and advice in regard to bats and other protected species. We have considerable experience concerning bats and heritage projects; however, we provide services to a variety of project types.

Working from East Sussex we have easy access across the south-east counties. Working locally ensures we minimise the environmental impacts associated with travel, whilst ensuring services remain cost-effective for our clients. We also therefore have local knowledge of the area and of the LPA requirements. Mountfield Ecology provides a range of services with information provided to clients in clear, concise reports, aimed at delivering the necessary information in a suitable format and in accordance with best practice.

We are experienced in undertaking survey work to identify the potential presence of a range of protected species, undertaking full bat surveys and assessments and providing suitable mitigation measures where necessary. We deliver high quality survey work using the latest technologies, ensuring our clients are aware of project constraints at the earliest stage. We have held many European Protected Species Mitigation (EPSM) Licenses in regard to bats, working with the wider project team to ensure successful delivery. Mitigation and compensation measures are designed to be appropriate and proportionate to the site specifics. We work with our clients and other project contractors in order to satisfy the legal requirements in a practical and economical way.

Our standards are maintained via professional membership to the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and the undertaking of appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Mountfield Ecology provides advice in accordance with the current best practice. Appropriate health and safety training is undertaken and surveyors hold Natural England protected species survey licenses where required.
